Where the legal thresholds sit
The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 set three daily exposure levels. Each one triggers a different duty as an employer — so knowing which side of the line you're on matters.
Assess and manage the risk, provide information, instruction and training, and make hearing protection available to anyone who asks for it.
Reduce exposure by means other than hearing protection, mark hearing protection zones, and make protection mandatory in those areas.
A hard legal ceiling that must not be exceeded — taking the protection hearing protection provides into account.
Daily personal noise exposure (LEX,8h) under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005. Where noise risk remains above the upper action value, health surveillance — normally audiometry — is also required.
How a survey runs

Scoping call
A short conversation about your site, machinery, shift patterns and any existing concerns, so the visit targets the roles and areas that actually matter.
On-site measurement
We attend during normal working conditions and measure with calibrated instrumentation — area and task measurements, plus personal dosimetry where exposure varies across a shift.
Exposure analysis
Results are converted into daily personal exposure for each role, producing a noise map of your site and a clear comparison against the 80, 85 and 87 dB(A) levels.
Report & action plan
You receive a written report with prioritised controls — engineering first, then organisational measures, then hearing protection — plus a documented review date.
