Fire Safety Stick: compact, no-servicing fire protection
The Fire Safety Stick is a different kind of fire extinguisher. It's non-pressurised, so it needs no annual servicing by an external fire safety company — a simple visual inspection of the expiry date is all that's needed. With a 15-year shelf life, its lifespan is triple that of most traditional extinguishers, and it's durable enough to drop or knock without accidental activation. It works by chemically interfering with the fire's combustion process without restricting the oxygen available to the person using it, so it's completely safe around humans and animals. It leaves no corrosive mess, is environmentally friendly and fully recyclable. If a fire is too large to tackle in a confined space, it can be activated and left in place to keep suppressing the fire while you get out — which is also why it's effective on chimney fires.

Manufacturer's specification. A dry powder extinguisher is not suitable for cooking oil and fat fires (Class F), and the Fire Safety Stick is not certified for lithium battery fires or coal and well-established burning log fires.

"But it isn't BS EN 3 certified?"
British Standard EN 3 applies to pressurised cylinder extinguishers — it doesn't cover the Fire Safety Stick because its non-pressurised design sits outside EN 3's scope, not because it fails to comply. The law itself (the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005) requires equipment to be “suitable and sufficient” for the risk identified in your fire risk assessment; it doesn't mandate EN 3 specifically. Suitability can also be evidenced through independent testing and CE/UKCA marking, both of which the Fire Safety Stick holds.
